Artist Statement:

For this project, I drew inspiration from the movie Nightmare on Elm Street. The movie is seen playing and the legendary villain is also featured in my animation. I wanted to make the video like a trailer, very cinematic but short and quick clips leading to questions about what will happen in the longer version. I had my roommate be the actress which was slightly difficult because we kept laughing over and over again. Secondly, there are a ton of bloopers with the dogs making noise or distracting somehow, and some scenes they were left in because they were what I had. I struggled with the animation because on my first round of the animation, I had used animate for everything. When I had lost my progress and didn't have the time to redo it all, I switched to after effects which proved difficult. I was less used to this program, and it felt more computer-y than artsy in my opinion, which I, as someone who struggles with technology, liked about animate. I still had fun with the animation aspects though, making Freddy move very strangely to mimic dream-like things that aren’t real, and using sounds I found to add to the characters. I did have a lot of fun playing with my sounds, I layered tons of eerie, spooky sounds I found on top of each other to produce a horror-like soundtrack on top of the film. This project was overall very fun and has made me want to use these programs for fun projects in the future. Being able to use premiere will most definitely be helpful going forward, and in this process I became very familiar and fast with the program.
